Abstract

Museum translation is a field on which, to date, there is not much research. For this reason, and coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Cordoba painter Julio Romero de Torres, this article aims to present a proposal for reverse translation (Spanish-English) of his paintings, included in the museum that bears his name, so that it can be put into practice in the translation classroom. Throughout this paper, we will undertake the importance of museum translation in the field of tourism. We will also analyze the key role that reverse translation plays in this field of tourism and we will present our translation proposal, designed for its implementation in the Translation of Advertising, Tourism, and Commercial Texts subject, taught in the fourth year of the University Degree in Translation and Interpreting at the University of Córdoba. To this purpose, this study follows a methodology that combines theoretical and practical exposition, starting with the analysis of the translation of touristic texts in general, and museum texts in particular, based on handworks, academic articles and works by authors such as Ginés (2020), Alas (2020), or Rodríguez (2024). The paper concludes with the presentation of the translation didactic proposal, whose implementation in the classroom reveals that the reverse translation process allows students to face real-life assignments in the professional world.
