Abstract

Urban regeneration in Bilbao, highlighted for its economic success, has aroused controversy due to the loss of key elements of the industrial heritage. This dilemma underlines the inherent tension between economic progress and the preservation of historical identity, raising critical questions about urban planning and heritage management.

The demolition of the Dalia de Gernika industrial building, an important example of industrial architecture, to build the new Guggenheim Urdaibai museum may be due to an attempt at urban revitalization and the creation of cultural spaces.
